Naples, Florida and Bangor - William E. Webb Sr., 93, formerly of Bangor, Maine died on May 22, 2024 in Naples, Florida. Bill was predeceased by his wife of more than 50 years, Jeannette Desjardins Webb. His sister, Marylou Simpson of Bangor also predeceased him.
Bill was born and raised in Bangor, graduating from Bangor High School in the late 1940s. After attending a few semesters at local colleges, he joined the Air Force serving for two years. As a young man, he enjoyed following and participating in many sports including golf, tennis and skiing.
Bill’s work career was primarily in sales. He started at his uncle’s business, Fleming Tire. Then for decades he worked as a traveling salesman for Automatic Distributors in Bangor until his retirement at age 80 in 2010. He was a longtime parishioner at St. Mary’s Church in Bangor.
In recent years, Bill lived full time in Naples Florida where he rediscovered his passions for golf, bridge, and cribbage often with other transplanted friends from Maine.
Bill is survived by his sons, William Webb Jr. and wife, Suzy of Connecticut, Michael Webb of Arizona, Paul Desjardins and wife, Pam of Massachusetts, Paula Desjardins and partner, Steve of Florida, and Collette King and partner, Joe of Arizona; grandchildren, Conor Webb of Washington, Christian and Caroline Webb of Arizona, Jodi Geaghan and husband, Chris, and Angela King of Maine; three great grandchildren. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Gail Johnson and family friend, Carole O’ Connell.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. The Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. All are invited to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor immediately following the services.
