ORONO- Wilsie Mae Myers, 92, died in Manchester, NH on November 14, 2020. She was born March 2, 1928 in Tullahoma, Tennessee, the daughter of John W.D. and Ada (Dew) Glover.
She was 18 years younger than her brothers and sisters and spent her childhood playing with her nieces and nephews. During the war, Wilsie met Sergeant Jonathan Myers who was stationed at the new army base and he was soon visiting her family. At the end of World War II, she and Jonathan married and settled in Orono in 1945.
Wilsie attended Tullahoma High School and graduated from Orono High School. She completed a two-year apprenticeship to become a professional baker with the University of Maine bakeries. She was the food service supervisor at the University health center for many years. Wilsie worked full time while successfully raising three children, Evelyn, Lenny and Martha.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Jonathan; son, Lenny; and all of her brothers and sisters, Earl, Kate Goff, John, Jack.
She is survived by her daughters, Evelyn Hart of Manchester, NH and Martha Taylor of Wichita, KS; six grandchildren, Jonathan Gogan, Jerilyn Yanez, Michael Hart, Matthew Myers, Jason Myers, Ryan Myers; and several nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.
A brief graveside service will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 30, 2020 at Riverside Cemetery, Bennoch Road, Orono, with Reverend Min of Orono United Methodist Church officiating. Due to COVID-19 precautions, the service will be outside, masks will be required, and staff will be performing contract tracing; no indoor gathering is scheduled. Those who wish to remember Wilsie in a special way may make gifts in her memory to a local food bank or Salvation Army holiday programs.
