Winifred Carroll

Winifred S. (Strout) Carroll, known by her family and friends as Winnie, passed away September 23, 2019 at a local facility. She was born February 11, 1929 in Alexander, ME the daughter of Lyman and Doris (Strout) Edgerly. Winnie graduated from Woodland High School in 1947. She moved to Bangor where she attended and graduated from Husson College. She married Edward Carroll in February of 1951. They were married for 56 years until his death in 2007. She worked for several businesses before she went to work for the Maine Central Railroad She retired from the Maine Central Railroad in 1994.

She enjoyed hunting and fishing on Schoodic Lake for many years.

Winnie is survived by her daughter Linda Smith and her husband Frank, her grandchildren Kimberly Stairs, Melissa Stairs, Jaime Smith and her fiancé Justin Mecham, Kelley Smith and her fiancé JR Spencer, Chad Smith and his wife Jennifer. Great granddaughters, Amali Brown, Audra McTague, Savannah McTague, Michela Kimball, and Natalie Caron. Nieces and Nephews, Sharon Cooper and her husband Gerald, Peter Phelan and his wife Andi, Lyman Phelan, Becki Wright and her husband Shane, Jackie Buchanan and her husband Walter, Judy Carroll, and John Carroll, along with several great nieces and nephews.

Winnie was predeceased by her parents, her husband Edward Carroll, her sisters Lois Faloon and Fern Garner, along with their husbands, Randall Faloon, and Don Garner.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff at Winterberry Heights in Bangor for their amazing care and concern for Winnie.

Funeral services will be held 11 am Sunday, September 29, 2019 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where relatives and friends are invited to call 10 am until 11. The family invites all to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., following the service. Burial will follow after the reception at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
