The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Owen Monday can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Condolences

Condolence From: Deb Jensen
Condolence: Mr. Monday's name came up in a totally random conversation the other day. I live in Wilton, NH and work at a public library. One of my patrons is from the Bangor area. She knows that I used to live up there so we often talk about places or people from the area and find out that we have them in common. Throughout our conversation the other day, we both found out that we had Mr Monday in common. She knew him from Rich's department store and I knew him because he saved me. I was a 17 year old girl working my first job at Woolco's department store in the little restaurant. He was the security guard there. We became friendly over time. He was so kind and parental. Always looking out for people. One night he was truly looking out or me. I still remember the date - October 24, 1979. As part of my job at the restaurant, I had to strain the fryolator grease . It was a huge, heavy pan. That night my hands slipped and I ended up spilling that hot grease all over me. I really don't remember what happened. The next thing I do remember is Mr Monday yanking me up off the floor and tearing my clothes off me. I was in such shock from the accident, I didn't understand what was happening. He found a sheet to cover me, got me under cold water, was telling people what to do left and right and calling the ambulance. He was my hero. I ended up being in the hospital for about a month and he came to visit me a number of times. I was (and will always be) so very grateful he was in my life that day. If it wasn't for his quick thinking, what was a bad situation would have become so much worse.
When I was telling this story at work the other day, one of my co-workers googled Mr Monday and found his obituary. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I know this message is long but I did want to pay tribute to him. I wanted to say thank you to him. He was a good man...very good to me. I hope his life was happy and filled with joy. Thank you again Mr Monday. I am grateful.

Condolence: To the family of Owen Monday:

May the precious memories of your loved one help to comfort you at this time.

I had the pleasure of working with Owen at Rich's Department Store in the mid 1970's. He always was cheerful to work with, and had an ever-present smile. Sadly, I lost track of Owen when I left Rich's Dept Store to pursue another field of work. I'm sure I can safely speak for many others who worked at Rich's Dept Store, that Owen was a true gentleman, a hard-working man, and a great friend. I'll always remember Owen for the nickname he bestowed on me: Bright eyes.

May he rest in peace, and may God surround you with strength at this sad time.

Sincerely,

Patsy Husson
