Obituary for Selina Ethel Shamala Rozario

Selina Ethel Shamala Rozario
Bangor - Selina Ethel Shamala Rozario (Maiden name, Raj) was born September 22nd, 1948, in India. She was one of seven children, born to Major D.A.S. Raj and Sugirtham Raj. She and her army family lived in various cities, and she fondly referred to herself as a "military brat." She attended Women's Christian College in Chennai and obtained a bachelor's degree in history. From an early age she proved herself to be an active and talented woman. Selina was captain of her state-champion collegiate volleyball team, was a lauded singer, and she played the complex Indian classical instrument the Veena. She married her husband of 44 years, Dr. Rodney A. Rozario at the Methodist Episcopal Church on December 26th, 1972, in Bangalore, India, and moved with him to Framingham, MA. She has been a Bangor resident since 1981 and was very proud of her Maine roots. For the past nine months she has also been a resident of Tuckahoe, NY, to proudly raise her beautiful beloved grandson "Little Guy" Sajiv, whose name means "full of life" and was chosen in her honor.
She is survived by her husband and three loving daughters Asha, Shalini and Anjali and son-in-law Neal; her siblings Sarala Nelson, Sabitha Ebenezer, Captain Albert Raj Jairaj, Cynthia Manson, Cecelia Selby; and her nieces Preethi, Aarthi and Shirin and her nephew Sunil. She was also very much loved by her husband's family: Vincent, Olga, Daniel, Gloria, Suzanna and Rebecca.
She will always be remembered for her extremely loving, humble, nurturing, selfless, generous and gentle nature; her caring and compassionate ways; her extreme beauty and modesty; her sense of humor and love of laughter; and most importantly, her limitless love for her family and all others. She was the most loving and forgiving wife a man could ever hope for, and a true blessing from God Almighty. She was the very best mother and grandmother, a true angel sent from above, a gift from God. She was also known and loved as a surrogate mother to many, and always had an open heart, a listening ear and warm hugs for all who needed her.
She had a passion for adventure and travel with special memories of flying a helicopter; riding motorbikes in India; zip lining through forest canopies; and traveling to Antarctica, Maui, and Ethiopia. She had a passion for nature and the outdoors; she was a talented gardener and enjoyed camping in Baxter State Park with her husband and daughters. She was a lover of all animals, and they loved her.
Selina passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 27th, 2016. She will be missed beyond human comprehension and we take solace in the fact that she is in the arms of Jesus.
She was a woman of strong Christian faith and devotion, and lived every moment of her life in the example of Jesus Christ our Lord.
She kept this quote close to her heart, and her family feels it reflects her nature perfectly:
"The kind and thoughtful things you do without ever seeking praise...Your friendly disposition and your warm caring ways...Your kindness, understanding and love that seem to have no end...Your strength, your gentleness and the comfort of your smile...For all these things and much more - you are loved."
We welcome all who loved Selina to join us in a celebration of her life. The wake will take place on Friday, December 2nd, 2016, at Brookings-Smith Funeral Home, 133 Center Street, Bangor, ME 04401 from 6-8 p.m., and the church service is on Saturday, December 3rd at the First United Methodist Church of Bangor, 703 Essex Street, Bangor, Maine, 04401 at 11:00 a.m. Those who wish to remember Selina in a special way may make gifts in her memory to AIDSorphanage in Chennai, India, care of Advent Christian Church, 2141 Broadway, Bangor, ME 04401.
