Obituary for Blanch Leola Peterson (Ellis)

Blanch Leola Peterson (Ellis)
CORINTH – Blanch Ellis Peterson, 83, returned home on May 6, 2017. She was born March 1, 1934, in Kenduskeag, the daughter of Blanchard and Leola (Paradis) Ellis.

Blanch graduated from East Corinth Academy and went to work at Bangor Mental Health as a licensed practical nurse until her marriage to Karl Peterson. Once she married and her children were born, she dedicated her life to being the best wife and mother she could be. Blanch owned and operated a dog kennel for 28 years; she was also a small-time farmer and avid animal lover. The Peterson barn was home to a myriad of chickens, goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits, exotic birds – even a horse or a cow – at any given time. The freezer and shelves in their home was always filled with food from the garden along with fiddleheads and dandelions. Blanch had the need to feed so she never made just one of anything; there were always 4 to 10 of everything which, as Karl would say back then, he had to “peddle” to friends and neighbors. After their children were grown, Blanch and Karl moved to Dover Foxcroft where they lived for another 24 years, eventually purchasing a winter home in Florida which they kept for about a decade. After 20 more years, they decided to return home to Corinth – to where they started their lives – and their family together. If you were to ask Blanch, she would tell you that God had blessed her greatly, and she was able to play in the sunshine all her life.

Blanch will be greatly missed by her daughter, Leola “Beanie” Barry of Corinth, granddaughter, Lindsey Peterson and fiancé Gary Alvarez of Lake Mary, FL; sisters, Reta Beckwith of Bangor, and Rena Smart of Corinth; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Sandra Wiseman of Corinth; as well as many nieces and nephews. Blanch was predeceased by her husband, Karl Peterson of 59 years; her son, Ted Peterson; sisters, Annie Smith and Roma Whitney; and brothers, Lee Ellis and Stephen Ellis.

In respect of Blanch’s wishes, there will be no services. She would only ask that we be kind to one another and never look on the burnt side of the cookie. Condolences to the family may be expressed at Brookings-Smith.com.
